Landscape Governance and Sustainable Land Restoration: Evidence from Shinyanga, Tanzania

Inclusive land restoration is increasingly considered to be a critical sustainable pathway the achievement of development goals (SDGs) in developing countries. The literature suggests that good governance practices support successful natural resource management. study assesses role landscape long-term thriving forest and project Shinyanga. We apply principles, which include participation, representation legitimacy, actor interactors, equity fairness, accountability transparency, respect for local knowledge. Descriptive methods are used analyze data collected through focus group discussions key informant interviews. evidence all principles contributed positively restoration, except transparency. Building on knowledge institutions, rules norms constituted foundation success. Equity empowerment were least influential attributes due exclusion women management areas. actors identified enhancement incentives, equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms, performance, instruments as aspects would benefit at level. Furthermore, cohesion synergies amongst different actors, governing structures, recognizing formal informal institutions’ interactions vital determinants outcomes.
